Jay Nelson Chamness
Jay N. Chamness joined the firm in 1993. He is a partner and a member of the Health Law Practice Group. Since joining the firm, he has practiced civil litigation, primarily in the health care field. He has defended a wide variety of medical professionals in complex medical malpractice litigation, including physicians, dentists, hospitals, home health care companies and nursing homes. He has tried numerous malpractice cases in state and federal courts and has also practiced extensively in the Tennessee appellate courts. He also practices in the area of wills and estates.
Mr. Chamness attained his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1988, with a double major in Political Science and Russian. He attained his law degree, cum laude, from St. Louis University School of Law in 1993. While in law school he was a member of the St. Louis University Law Journal and served as a law intern for Judge Theodore McMillian of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
He is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute. His publication entitled "Liability of Physicians for Internet Communications" appeared in the February 2002 issue of For the Defense.
