J.K. Simms joined Cornelius & Collins, LLP in 2001 and is currently a partner in the firm and chairs the firm’s Employer-Employee Relations Practice Group. He also serves on the firm's Executive Committee and Recruiting Committee. J.K. practices almost exclusively in the area of employment law and labor relations. J.K. has represented companies and individuals in areas of wrongful discharge, retaliation, discrimination, sexual harassment, wage and hour, Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Equal Pay Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act. J.K. has also represented companies in the areas of collective bargaining negotiations, grievance and arbitration. In addition to handling matters in litigation for management clients, J.K. spends a great deal of time in advising clients to help identify potential employment-related legal issues and resolving day-to-day management and operations issues. J.K. conducts training of workforces in various industries on employment-related matters.
J.K. is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, Defense Research Institute and Society for Human Resource Management. In 2011, he was named a member of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Program.
J.K. is originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, but has lived in Middle Tennessee since 1989. He obtained his undergraduate degree from David Lipscomb University where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. J.K. received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he served as the Lead Student Materials Editor for the Tennessee Law Review.
J.K., his wife, Suzanne, and their three children reside in Franklin, Tennessee. J.K. is an avid sports fan, music buff and enjoys traveling.
